What Is a CBCT?

In this video, Dr. Rose Magno explains how CBCT scans provide detailed 3D imaging for precise implant planning and other treatments. Schedule a consultation at our Emeryville office, serving San Francisco, East Bay, and Oakland, to see how this advanced technology ensures safety and accuracy in your care.

A CBCT scan, also known as a 3D X-ray, provides a three-dimensional view of your jaw, allowing us to see the length, width, and other important structures of your teeth, implants, and jaw. This is a more advanced imaging technique compared to traditional X-rays, such as panoramic (pan) or periapical (PA) X-rays, which don’t offer the same level of detail.

In fact, a 3D CBCT scan is now considered essential for planning dental implants. We cannot proceed with implant placement without it because it provides a detailed, accurate view of the bone and surrounding structures. For example, the scan presented in this video shows us exactly where an implant should be placed, ensuring that it aligns perfectly within the bone. In the scan, you can see the implant positioned correctly between the bone and other structures, with enough length to support the restoration. It also gives us the ability to assess angles and make precise decisions for the best outcome.

The CBCT scan ensures that implant placement is done safely and effectively, giving us the information needed to deliver optimal results.
