What Is a Dental Bridge?

In this video, Dr. Rose Magno explains how dental implants have replaced traditional bridges, preserving natural teeth while offering stable, long-lasting results. Schedule a consultation in Emeryville to explore your options.

Traditional bridges are becoming less common due to advancements in dental technology. In the past, to create a bridge for a missing tooth, the teeth on either side of the gap had to be altered by cutting them down to make space for the bridge. This process could be unnecessary if the neighboring teeth were healthy, essentially damaging perfectly good teeth just to restore a missing one.

Today, we use dental implants as a much better alternative. Instead of modifying the adjacent teeth, we place an implant in the space where the tooth is missing and then place a crown on top. This approach preserves the integrity of your natural teeth and provides a more stable, long-lasting solution. With mini implants and traditional implants boasting over a 95% success rate, this is a more effective and less invasive option compared to bridges, and often at a similar cost. Given these advantages, implants have largely replaced bridges in modern dentistry.
