What Is a Dental Bone Graft?

In this video, Dr. Rose Magno explains how bone grafts strengthen the jaw for implants by promoting new bone growth. Schedule a consultation at our Emeryville office to learn more.

A bone graft is a procedure where bone material, or “bone seeds,” is placed into the area where a tooth has been extracted. These bone grafts help stimulate the growth of your own natural bone around the grafted material. Over time, your body integrates the graft, allowing the bone to grow and strengthen.

The process typically takes about four to six weeks for the bone graft to integrate and begin promoting new bone growth. Once this healing period is complete, the bone graft provides a solid foundation for placing a new implant. This helps ensure that the area is strong and stable, providing the necessary support for the implant over time.
